OMAHA! The Cocktail
January 24, 2014
The Super Bowl is always a great opportunity to imbibe a great adult beverage. Certainly you've heard quarterbacks yelling cryptic messages to their teammates designed to communicate a change in play or, or to simply confuse their opponents. And no quarterback is more famous for this than Peyton Manning and his "Omaha!"
Yes, there are crass "drinking games" based on Manning's penchant for shouting "Omaha!" at the line of scrimmage. We have opted to create something more appropriate for a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer.
We present "Omaha! The Cocktail." Like this drink, Peyton had a firm family foundation which began in the south in the person of Archie Manning. There are a few "southern" drinks which include mint...so that's where we'll begin. One can acquire mint in the produce section of any well-stocked grocery store.
The Denver Broncos defense of the late 70's and early 80's was referred to as the "Orange Crush." The University of Tennessee football team is the "Big Orange," therefore you'll need to add LOTS of crushed ice over the mint. The next ingredient is 3/4 of an ounce of Grand Marnier, an orange flavored cognac-liqueur. Big Orange Crush...get it?
Next add 3 ounces of Jack Daniels. Yes, Peyton Manning spent some time in the great state of Tennessee as quarterback of the Volunteers. The unofficial state beverage is Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey (it's not bourbon).
What you'll have now is tasty, but it simply needs something to pull all those tastes together. Add a splash of Tom Brady's tears (tonic water) and you'll have a smooth, refreshing, whiskey drink that even the ladies will enjoy.
