Celebrate the Margarita
February 18, 2015
What is the most popular tequila cocktail? YES! The margarita. And guess what? There is a whole day dedicated to enjoying copious amounts of this lovely cocktail, February 22nd. National Margarita Day. This year, that falls on a Sunday. While we will be closed (boo), we're providing a little history and a couple recipes so you can stock up early!
Who invented the margarita?
Like many popular drinks, more than one person has claimed the origin of the margarita.
The most believable story comes from a little Tijuana restaurant called Rancho La Gloria and it's owner, Carlos "Danny" Herrera. As the story goes, he concocted the drink for a young actress who was allergic to most hard alcohol ACCEPT tequila. So he whipped up a variation of the famous tequila shot and put them in a glass. The frozen version didn't appear until 1971. Leave it to hippies to turn a perfectly good drink into a slushy. Go here for more history.
Enough about history, let's celebrate! Margarita's are so fun! They are so easy to make and there are so many possibilities. Do you like the traditional margarita, the skinny version, frozen, or strawberry? Want to find the perfect recipe for a mango margarita? To the Internet! We've done some searching for you and here are a couple recipes we couldn't help but share. We may or may not have made up the names.
