Celebrate National Margarita Day

It's National Margarita Day! Yes, it is the middle of winter, but honoring this classic summer cocktail today will make you think of the warm days ahead. Gather a few friends today and salute this national holiday with one of the recipes below!

The Classic
1 1/2 oz tequila
1/2 oz triple sec
1 oz lime juice

Rub rim of a cocktail glass with lime juice. Dip in salt. Combine tequila, triple sec and lime juice using a shaker. Strain into a margarita glass or old-fashioned glass.

The Sweet
Watermelon Margaritas
2 teaspoons sugar
1 lime wedge
3 1/2 cups cubed seeded watermelon
1/2 cup tequila
2 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon Triple Sec (orange-flavored liqueur)
Lime wedges or watermelon balls (optional)

Place 2 teaspoons sugar in a saucer. Rub the rims of 6 glasses with 1 lime wedge; spin rim of each glass in sugar to coat. Set prepared glasses aside. Combine watermelon and next 4 ingredients (throughTriple Sec) in a blender; process until smooth. Fill each prepared glass with 1/2 cup crushed ice. Add 1/2 cup margarita to each glass. Garnish with lime wedges or melon balls, if desired.

The Twist
Cucumber-Cilantro Margarita
4 thin slices peeled cucumber
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro leaves, plus 1 sprig
2 tablespoons sugar
3 lime wedges
2 1/2 ounces silver tequila
2 ounces triple sec
Juice of 1 fresh lime
Large ice cubes
Kosher salt

Muddle 3 slices cucumber, 2 tablespoons cilantro leaves, the sugar and 1 lime wedge in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the tequila, triple sec and lime juice. Fill the shaker with ice and shake heavily. Rub a rocks glass with the remaining 2 lime wedges and coat with salt (optional). Fill a glass with ice and strain the cocktail into the glass. Garnish with the cilantro sprig and remaining cucumber slice.

The Spicy
Meyer Lemon Spicy Margarita
2 ounces fresh-squeezed Meyer lemon juice
1 ounce your favorite tequila
1 ounce triple sec
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 jalapeno, seeds removed, finely diced
1 slice fresh lime, for garnish
1 teaspoon salt, for rim

Cook's Note: If you can't find Meyer lemons, use regular lemons with a touch of fresh-squeezed orange juice. Mix the lemon juice, tequila, triple sec, honey and diced jalapeno in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until very cold. Rub the lime slice around the rim of a glass and dip in salt to form a salt rim. Strain the drink into the glass.
