The Best Summer Snacks in Our Sumner County Beer and Liquor Store
August 9, 2016
We’ve added snacks to our Sumner County beer and liquor store, so next time you stop into Bluegrass Beverages, you can fill up your beer growler and your stomach. Two of our favorite brands in the new snack section are Boar’s Head and Nashville-based Southern City Flavors.
Boar’s Head is known nationwide for its meats and cheeses. Our selection features all of your favorites, including several kinds of gouda, cheddar, Havarti, Swiss, mozzarella, brie and more. We also have Boar’s Head pepperoni, soppressata, sausages, and salami.
If you’re entertaining this summer — or just hanging out with your family — try a Boar’s Head grilled cheese. Grab a couple of kinds of cheese from our store (we recommend the Vermont cheddar) and some salami or soppressata for extra flavor. Here’s the full recipe adapted from Boar’s Head:
2 slices Tuscan bread
2 slices Vermont cheddar cheese
2 slices bologna (or any Boar’s Head salami)
2 slices American cheese (or any of your favorite cheeses)
2 tablespoons deli style mustard
½ tablespoon butter
Preheat skillet over medium heat. Layer Tuscan bread, cheese, meat and mustard and top with the second slice of bread. Butter both exterior sides of the sandwich and grill in skillet until cheese is melted, about 3 minutes per side.
Cheese and beer go great together, so don’t forget to fill up your beer growler. Our Sumner County beer growler station has the perfect beer for your sandwich. Try the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA to stand up to the flavors of the Boar’s Head cheeses and meat.
Southern City Flavors
We’re so happy to feature awesome food from a local company in our Sumner County beer and liquor store. Southern City Flavors offers sauces and snacks, including tons of different sauces for grilling, dips to go along with your favorite salty snack and locally made nut snacks like milk chocolate Chambord pecans and chocolate amaretto pecans. Whether you’re in the mood for a salty or sweet snack or something to flavor your favorite grilled meat, we have you covered with our selection from Southern City Flavors.
One of our favorite recipes from Southern City Flavors is their baked brie with raspberry jalapeno sauce. You can see it on their website or check it out below.
1 tube crescent rolls
1 small round brie (we recommend Boar’s Head)
1 jar Zack’s raspberry jalapeno sauce
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Open the tube of crescent rolls and close the seams by pressing on them instead of separating the individual rolls. Place the brie in the center of the dough and seal the crust around the top of the cheese. Bake on a cookie sheet for 15 minutes or until golden brown. While hot, pour raspberry jalapeno sauce generously on top and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
The combination of sweet and spicy in this dish pairs well with several beers from our beer growler selection. The Bell’s Oarsman Ale is an excellent way to cut the spice from the jalapeno.
