Drink. Love. Recycle. Happy Earth Day!

April 22, 2014

Ah, another Earth Day is here. Instead of not washing your hair for a week and juicing everything in sight, here's a novel idea; drink a glass of wine. Better yet, get some friends together and finish off a few bottles.

Before you throw them away, consider these facts:

Over 31.4 billion bottles of wine are bought and sold each year around the world.

Did you know that glass containers for food and beverages are 100% recyclable? They can be used again and again without loss in quality or purity.

In 2012, 41% of beer and soft drink bottles were recovered for recycling. 34% of wine and liquor bottles and 15% of food and other glass jars were recycled. In total, about 28% of all glass containers were recycled according to the U.S. EPA.

Manufacturers benefit from recycling in several ways - it reduces emissions and consumption of raw materials, extends the life of plant equipment such as furnaces, and saves energy.

What can you do to eliminate waste?

Recycle, of course! But if you feel crafty, there are endless ways to repurpose or up-cycle used wine bottles. After scouring Pinterest, see some of the brilliant ideas we've found!
